Look on the bright side--as long as the wordlwide news web holds together, it'll be like living in a sci-fi novel!

I hope to live a good long time--i'm very curious to see what REALLY happens....will we rise to the occasion? Or get dragged down by our own implacable stupidity? Stay tuned!

I like Jim Kunstler's attitude: "it's going to be a great show from the cheap seats." Hey, my seat is getting cheaper all the time!
As crazy as it's likely to get, I believe it will still be possible for individuals, families, and groups of friends to live happy, fulfilling lives for as many generations as the planet will support us--which is likely to be millions of years. The trick is to understand that happiness is an internal attitude, not dependent on external circumstances--which, in comparison with what we grew up with and thought we could expect forever, are likely to be quite a bit bleaker in the future. "Living in interesting times" is an Chinese curse, I hear, but it can also be a blessing...which gets back to taking as "a great show from the cheap seats."

The only option is no option at all.
There is no sustainable energy source at all, in terms of electricity and powered transportation/production. High efficiency solar and kinetic generators all require highly purified rare metals that are not just industry intensive to produce but getting more rare each year.

http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn16550-why-sustainable-power-is-unsustainable.html

The only truly sustainable power source is bio fueled muscle power. And thats assuming that we can keep our population in balance with the life support system that we live within.

I hate to say it but it pretty much looks to all be circling the drain at this point.
